The Smart Browser Circa 2010

I can't believe I missed this, but three weeks ago Alex Iskold, CEO of Adaptive Blue, had a fantastic post on the future of the browser:

...What we need is for the browser to 'understand' what we are doing and to save us time. To do that, it will have to know about what we have looked for in the past and what we are looking for now. It will need semantics. To achieve these ambitious goals, the next generation of the browsers will need to:

• Not lose important information and preserve semantics
• Encourage and simplify tagging of the content
• Continuously build and update the set of user experiences
• Focus on usability and help the user do things faster
• Embrace the design for productivity model

• Enjoy automated tagging and painless 1-click interface
• Store your collections locally and on amazon's S3 web service

• View and manage your browser and del.cio.us bookmarks using one simple interface
• Instantly buy, sell, compare, rent and find similar items on amazon, netflix, price grabber, itunes and many other sites

I have no idea if their tool lives up to these claims--I just registered to become a beta user--and I have lots of questions (How does it compare to AttentionTrust's attention recorder? What's Blueorganizer's data format? What control do I have over my own data? Does Adaptive Blue support AttentionTrust's principles?), but they're clearly onto something interesting, and I'm looking forward to learning more.
